This year already there has been quite a few odd beauty trends. People are drawing on freckles and purposely smearing their lipstick to get a “lollipop” effect. The picture below features both of these trends.

However, there is one trend that is a little out there that I am finding myself loving: the simple beauty of chunky glitter makeup.

There is something so elegant and beautiful to me about it that makes it captivating. These looks are obviously not something that you would wear every day. However, for a special occasion like a themed party or festival, this look is perfect.
After watching YouTube tutorials, I think the most common way to apply the glitter so that it stays is with eyelash glue. However, for more fine grained glitter I would recommend using sticky hair spray. I have done this before with glitter and it works really well!
Companies and buisnesses have even begun to make glitter specifically for this trend, like this Etsy shop has. I love the amount of creativity that this trend allows for. It is letting people express themselves in a whole new way and I am definitely a fan.
Over the past couple weeks, I worked on a video project for a class that I am in. We were given several options for kinds of projects that we could do. I chose to go the “artsy” route.
I wanted to create a video that was meaningful to me and that had a powerful message. Confidence is something that I have struggled to define my whole life. Being a member of Kappa Delta has helped me learn a lot more about confidence and how it should be defined. Part of Kappa Delta’s mission statement is to “build confidence” in women and girls, so a lot of what we do as members of the organization is centered around this.
Since coming to college, I have learned a lot about myself already. I am a more confident woman today because I have been learning to define what that should mean to me in the correct way. I think this is something that is so important because so many woman and girls struggle with this.
Once I knew what I wanted to do my video about, I wrote the script for my voiceover and recorded that first. Then, I planned out my video shots. Planning those out really went a long way in making the editing process easier for me. I knew that I wanted to film my friend doing her makeup. I think that women putting on makeup is honestly when many of us are at our most vulnerable state. We are often covering up insecurities and analyzing and judging ourselves. I wanted to convey this in my footage and portray a sense of empowerment by the end.
I am very happy with the way my project turned out and I hope you all enjoy it!
Self tanning is something that is definitely more tricky than it seems. The idea of getting dark quickly without going near the sun is appealing to anyone. As someone with naturally fair skin, I have tried a variety of products over the years to achieve a summer glow. With that, I have had my fair share of mishaps. I can offer plenty of advice on exactly what products I reccomend and how I get a streak free tan that lasts as long as possible.
Finding the Right Product
There are thousands of self tanning products out there. I recommend doing your own research on YouTube or online to find what is best for your own skin type and color. There are plenty of videos and articles with progress pictures about self tanners both drug store and brand name. Currently, my favorite is Banana Boat’s self tanner.
First, you need to exfoliate before you put your tanner on! Self tanning works by bonding to your skin cells. Exfoliating cleans off dead skin cells. So if you don’t exfoliate, self tanner will bond to the dead skin that will probably fall off a lot easier, and in a matter of days. However, if you do shower before you put self tanner on and exfoliate properly, the product will bond to the new skin and will be less streaky and will last longer.
Apply it Correctly
Follow the directions on your specific product! However, most self tanners should be applied similar to a lotion. However, be sure to avoid your ankles, elbows and knees. Also make sure to wash your hands and blend the water into the product on your wrist so that there isn’t a stark line where you washed it off.
One of the best ways to learn new make up techniques and to learn about the best products out there is YouTube. There are thousands of “Beauty Gurus” out there, but with so many it’s hard to know who exactly is the best to watch. Here are some of my favorites!
Jaclyn Hill is a go to Beauty Guru whether you are just starting out with makeup or if you have been doing it for awhile and are looking for new tricks and techniques. She always has something new and brilliant to bring to the table. She’s also easy to follow and understand. Definitely check out her channel, you will learn a lot from just one video! She has been on YouTube and in the makeup industry for awhile so she knows a lot and even has some of her very own makeup!
Nikkie has been on YouTube for years and is so incredibly talented. She does a wide variety of looks that feature everything from crazy Halloween make up to simple everyday looks. She is also hilarious and quirky which make her videos extremely entertaining!
Bethany is younger than the first two and her videos are less centered around make up and more about beauty in general. She is so fun loving and bubbly which makes her videos endlessly entertaining! She makes videos about her favorite beauty products of each month and about her daily rountines!

In my opinion, eyeshadow is one of the most fun aspects of makeup. Especially with the quickly evolving eyeshadow trends, it leaves a lot of room for creativity. Eyeshadow and lipstick are really the only parts on the face that allow for a lot of color and creativity without being considered too crazy or “out there”. That being said, I want to introduce you to some of my favorite eyeshadow palettes.
First and foremost comes Morphe eyeshadow palettes. Morphe palettes easily take home the first place prize. They never fail to be pigmented and beautiful colors but get this- each one is only $22! You get the same quality that you would get with most $50 eyeshadow palettes but for half the price. Ever since I got my first Morphe palette I have been hooked. I HIGHLY recommend these especially for those of you that are just starting out your own makeup collections.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette
So this palette is a little more pricey, but it certainly is for a reason. Make up retailers like Ulta and Sephora really can’t seem to keep this eyeshadow palette in stock! I can tell you first hand that it is worth the hype. I finally got my hands on one after months of searching. Each of the colors in the palette are BEAUTIFUL. They are so richly pigmented and creamy. This palette is truly worth every dollar!
I, like many other girls my age, will be taking a trip to the beach this spring break! With that being said, I would like to recommend a few beauty tips and tricks for looking your best on the beach without putting in too much work.

If you have read my Right Hand Beauty Products blog, you already know I am a huge fan of this. This will allow you to still have mascara on all day even while swimming in the ocean or sweating in the heat. Not to mention, waterproof mascara also holds your eyelash curl better! However, I will say be sure to bring some makeup wipes! Waterproof mascara stays on well, but it can also be hard to get off!
Tinted BB Cream

If you swim, this is not going to stay on your face. However, if you are just laying out by the ocean or exploring the beach town, BB Cream will give you coverage and protection from those UV rays because of the SPF in it.
LipSense Liquid Lipstick
Now, if you want some lipstick that is going to stay on your lips all day, even at the beach, then this is your go to! This lipstick is on a whole different level compared to others. Once you put it on, it will not budge until you take a makeup wipe to it or until over 12 hours later. For that reason, I highly recommend it for a beach vacation. It comes in a variety of colors for every skin coloring and is waterproof!
In the past couple weeks, I created, recorded, and edited a podcast for a class I’m in. Truly, this was a learning experience for me in more ways than I suspected.
At first, things seemed to be going smoothly. I worked with another friend of mine in the class. The first problem we faced initially was trying to find a way to combine our blog topics into a podcast topic. Her blog is about travel and mine is a beauty lifestyle blog. However, after about twenty minutes of brainstorming we soon figured it out. We decided to make our topic about her adventures through Europe. I would ask her questions about her experiences, what she learned, as well as what the beauty and fashion was like there.
Then came recording the audio. We got the sound quality working well right away; however, looking back on it there were some things we could’ve done better. For example, I sat slightly closer to the mic than Carly.
Despite this, we recorded our show and it was fun! The only thing that was especially difficult about it was the timing. We had a timer going to keep us on track, but making things around two minutes was hard! I think that sometimes I was watching the timing almost too closely and I was nervous about it. Because of that, at some points when I spoke I didn’t sound as natural.
After our show was edited and done, I discovered what our biggest problem was. We both said like and um way too much! Carly couldn’t figure out how to edit them all out. However, I’m thankful that this podcast opened my eyes to my own speech patterns. You never realize how much you do something until it’s right in front of your face!
